This is the first video in the series that will coincide with Steve Stoute’s book, The Tanning of America: How Hip Hop Created a Culture That Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy. I have been meaning to pick up this book and read the views from the artist perspective of how much hip-hop has changed the industry. From being looked at as a urban youth culture back in the late 70′s early 80′s, to today where so many of the same people make money off it. Hip-hop has made a permanent change to the way the youth of today dress, talk, and shop.
Growing up in the 80′s its great to see how much hip-hop has grown to influence a country who in the beginning looked at it as just a fad. You can’t watch TV without seeing a commercial using some kind of influence from hip-hop. Even kids shows these days use hip-hop to help get their message across. My kids love the Yo Gabba Gabba segment Biz’s Beat of The Day with Biz Markie where he show kids how to beat box. As an 80′s baby, I love how hip-hop has made its imprint in history.
